WhatsApp is rolling out a new feature that notifies users when specific contacts post a Status update, according to WABetaInfo.
Available in the latest beta version of WhatsApp for Android, this feature allows users to get instant alerts when selected friends or family members share new updates. The rollout is gradual, with broader availability expected over the coming weeks.
If you’re part of the WhatsApp Beta program, you can enable this feature easily:
- Open a contact’s Status.
- Tap the menu (⋮) icon and select “Get notifications.”
- Confirm when prompted.
Once activated, you’ll receive a notification whenever that contact posts a new Status. You can also mute these alerts anytime through the same menu.
Additionally, if the Status includes photos or videos, the notification will show a small preview, allowing users to view updates without opening the app.
At this stage, the feature is exclusive to beta testers, and there’s no official timeline for its release to all WhatsApp users.
